Tibetan Web Font

David F Germano
Department of Religious Studies

The project's overarching objective is to give systematic support to the implementation of Tibetan script/language within computing and Web environments through focusing on the international Unicode standard. Full implementation involves a broad array of activities: fonts, keyboards, documentation, interface translation, specific digital systems support, workshops, and more.

The project aims to be complementary through coordinating with other projects, organizations, and individuals to make crucial contributions necessary for a full solution. It will also act as a coordinating center to help support and distribute work done by others committed to open source and free digital solutions for Tibetan. All resources will be distributed for free over the Internet at www. thdl.org.

The core goal of the grant is to create an Open Type Unicode font from Tibet Machine glyphs which can be used in Windows, and to create detailed documentation of relevant processes and issues.

The main work is to be done by Nathaniel Garson with guidance by Chris Fynn, and possible occasional assistance on documentation in particular from part-time staff.
