A MASSIF Effort to Determine the Mass-Luminosity Relationship

Philip A Ianna
Department of Astronomy

I am carrying out work described for me related to ground-based astrometry in connection with establishing the proximity of nearby star candidates in the Southern Hemisphere. In particular I am modelling observations of star fields relevant to SIM observations in the context of the number of reference stars, number of observations required and brightness of the target star to reach final astrometric precision goals. There are issues I will address regarding characterizing the reference stars with respect to magnitude and color, and spatial distribution in the field, crucial to determining high quality parallaxes.
