Department of Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics is housed in Kerchof Hall on the central grounds of the University. Mathematics today is a vibrant and dynamic field, manifesting itself in such familiar things are CAT scans, compact discs, and satellite communication. Accordingly, the Department is broad and varied, with courses that allow each student to tailor a program of study to his or her needs. This breadth is made possible by a faculty whose interests range widely. Professors in the department conduct research in algebra, analysis, topology, probability and statistics, and mathematical physics. They have received Sloan, Humboldt, and Guggenheim fellowships, as well as other scholarly honors and numerous research grants.

The department, with more than thirty faculty members, offers programs of study leading to the B.A., M.A., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees.
