Department of Physics

The Department of has experimental and theoretical research programs in atomic physics, condensed matter physics, nuclear and particle physics, and high energy physics, as well as experimental programs in gravitational physics and biological physics. Classes, laboratories and supervised research are offered, leading to BA, BS, MA, MS, and PhD degrees. In addition, many introductory survey and special topic courses satisfy a wide range of interests, and the Department actively works with teachers and school systems from around the state to improve science education in Virginia.
