Welcome to Oscar

A public Website that presents scholarships, creativity and research at the University of Virginia.

By Arts & Sciences Communications Staff

Oscar combines news stories, research projects, organization information and profiles from alumni, graduates, undergraduates, faculty and staff, from the University of Virginia’s College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences and School of Medicine, into a single website. Our goal is to encourage support and collaboration.

It’s for Faculty

Using Oscar, researchers can showcase project abstracts and update their own profile that page shows their research interests, contact information and publications. Faculty members can also find other researchers conducting similar research projects who share scholarly interests with whom they can collaborate on projects or teaching.

It’s for Students

Oscar is backed by the most comprehensive research database at the College and GraduateSchool of Arts & Sciences. Oscar provides research and news stories on topics from international travel to cell biology. Students can easily find faculty mentors who share their research interest and can guide their academic exploration.

It’s for Organizations

Departments, centers and programs can provide descriptions, contact information (including links to their website), and the projects they are affiliated with all in one place.

It’s for Community

In addition to research, Oscar provides news from U.Va. publications as well as public news sources. Alumni and general audiences can connect with the intellectual life of the University through learning about and supporting ongoing research projects found in Oscar.

Start-up funding for Oscar was given by U.Va. alumnus John Griffin (Commerce ’85), who has made numerous gifts to the University to foster cross-disciplinary collaboration.
